Large-scale analytical water quality model coupled with GIS for simulation of point sourced pollutant discharges
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mathematical modeling is an important tool for water quality studies, and the integration of water quality models with geographic information systems (GIS) is very useful for information extraction and for results interpretation. In this context, this work presents the development of a water quality model coupled with GIS (MapWindow GIS) for representing impacts of point-sourced pollutants released with distinct durations under different flow scenarios, allowing a systemic view of the entire basin, and capable of being used with low data availability. The model is called SIAQUA-IPH and uses a pollutograph convolution scheme to represent multiple discharges and confluences in the basin, based on analytical solutions of the longitudinal advection-dispersion equation. Operational tests presented a full operational performance from all technical solutions adopted, and a representation of plumes considered satisfactory in comparison to observations. Additionally, a simple sensitivity analysis is presented, that gives useful insights about the model application. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Air quality modelling at regional scale using WRF/Chem and a GIS based system for emission inventory in southeast Italy
Air quality simulation and forecasting is a complex problem that involves the knowledge of meteorological factors, chemical processes and emission inventories. In the real atmosphere all of these aspects are coupled in an intricate pattern, with time scales that may be much less than the scales involved only in meteorology. Another crucial point is the estimation of the emission inventory that ...

In this study, turbulent flow around a tube bundle in non-orthogonal grid is simulated using the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) technique and parallelization of fully coupled Navier – Stokes (NS) equations. To model the small eddies, the Smagorinsky and a mixed model was used. This model represents the effect of dissipation and the grid-scale and subgrid-scale interactions. The fully coupled NS eq...

متن کاملModeling Spatial Distributions of Point and Nonpoint Source Pollution Loadings in the Great Lakes Watersheds
A physically based, spatially-distributed water quality model is being developed to simulate spatial and temporal distributions of material transport in the Great Lakes Watersheds of the U.S. Multiple databases of meteorology, land use, topography, hydrography, soils, agricultural statistics, and water quality were used to estimate nonpoint source loading potential in the study watersheds. Anim...
